Summary
Experience first-hand what it's like to Fight for Every Yard in Madden NFL 10. With the all-new Pro-Tak animation technology, players have more control over the outcome of each play. Whether driving a receiver towards the first down, or battling for a fumble at the bottom of a pile, the play won't end until the whistle blows. Add to that the most immersive broadcast presentation and online innovation to date, and Madden NFL 10 captures the authenticity and emotion of the NFL like never before. Pro-Taks's all new animation technology provides unprecedented control over the outcome of every play. Enhanced play at the line of scrimmage features a new blocking system that allows the quarterback to step into the pocket and gives the defensive line more control over the rush. Authenticity - Referees peeling players off a fumble pile, the chain gang rushing in to measure for a key first down, and all-new player equipment ensure that if you see it on Sunday, you’ll see it in Madden NFL 10. The improvements that Madden 10 offers over Madden NFL 09 are vast. In fact, aside from a new console generation, Madden 10 might provide the most significant year-over-year upgrade in the 21-year history of the series. Even gamers who have been wishing for a sequel to ESPN NFL 2K5 will be impressed, and for a football fan, buying this year’s Madden is a no-brainer.

A fantastic addition to the series, and quite possibly the best football game ever created.

In the end Madden 10 is the kind of game that I am willing to look past the shortcomings because what’s good is really, really good. It’s worth putting up with the faults in order to experience what works.

So whether you’ve played Madden year after year, or have been a hold out since the 2K franchise’s demise, all fans of the pigskin will be happy to hear that this is the Madden to own no matter who you are. Not only is this the best representation of the franchise to date, but is quite possibly the best football title to date.

Being able to focus on finding an open receiver without worrying as much about the split-second paranoia of protecting my player was a welcome relief.

If you rarely play online or have a slow Internet connection and hate micro-managing, stop reading now and go buy last year's game instead. If you don't fit into either of those molds, then this will be the most satisfying experience playing virtual sports ever.

An outstanding game - the best the series has ever seen. A great technical foundation has been laid with this year's outing, and true Madden fans will appreciate the package EA has put together.

There’s no such game as “Perfect” but Madden NFL 10 and the development team over at EA Tiburon continues to offer the greatest football experience year after year. The Online Franchise and the possibility to play with a friend online are welcomed additions and the overall product is a must have for any Madden hardcore fan out there.

More than ever before, Madden looks, feels and plays like any given Sunday. If you purchase one football game this decade, this is it.

Madden NFL 10 doesn’t leave anything to chance. All NFL fans will most certainly appreciate the work done in developing such a feast of graphics, gameplay, statistics, and presentations. The game is fun to play throughout, thanks to the easy to master but thorough tactics system.

It just misses being the football messiah many Maddenites are claiming it to be, but Tiburon has found a way to take their successful formula to the next level, creating a football experience that’s not only incredibly satisfying now, but has me looking forward to where they go from here.

An impressive all around performance from Madden this year makes it the best Madden recently released if not of all time.

If you are a fan of the series, this is a no-brainer to pick up, but even if you are even a mild sports fan, you cannot go wrong with Madden NFL 10.

Madden NFL 10 may well be the best Madden game. This is a great pickup for any football fan. Franchise mode is great this year. A lot more features added to give you a more in depth look at your team, and what is happening around the league. Online franchise is a great addition.

Madden NFL 10 doesn’t redefine the series or innovate in any monumental way, but that doesn’t stop it from being a truly great football game.

A real standout is the game’s gang tackles, which allow some control in moving the pile, but at the same time is not too powerful.

There are a few moments where you might be left scratching your head about AI decisions, and the audio can be off target, on occasion, but this is the best looking Madden game to date and the new elements really give players the opportunity to learn and grow in the game.

A great game which is better than the last version. It has even more gameplay and modes in comparison with last year. It also has outstanding and deep gameplay.

Spit and polish have taken the series far over the last two decades, but this is the first sign that maybe a more substantial revision is due.

Football fundamentals matter now. Successful plays come from knowing the situation, calling the right play, making a good pre-snap read, and then executing -- the same criteria that determines the outcome in a real game.

Madden 10 is still, in almost every way, a quality title. It’s a game packed with detail, drama and fun. So don’t be surprised if it’s around for another twenty years.

If you have a solid internet connection and have the time to dedicate to the game’s impressive franchise mode, Madden NFL 10 is a must-buy. But if you’re a more casual gamer just wanting to play this game for a bit, you might be better pressed to get last year’s version of the game.

Will Madden NFL 10 change your mind about the franchise as a whole, and get you to buy it if you don't normally do so? Probably not. Like most NFL teams, this game is not quite ready for the Super Bowl.

To be fair to them its not like they Plaxico Burressed themselves, and it's tribute to the solid product Madden has become over the years that 10 is held together by its depiction of the nuts and bolts of real football and the Online Franchise mode.

Despite the issues Madden NFL 10 has, the bottom line is the gameplay is as tight as it has ever been, with the new tweaks adding to an already accurate American Football experience. A few niggles here and there prevent this from being an essential crossover sports title, so for now, Madden NFL 10 will satisfy the current fanbase rather than appeal to a new one.

Madden NFL 10 may not have taken huge leaps and bounds forward, but the game does build on last years solid instalment. Tweaks in a few key areas, most notably the games AI mean the game provides a more realistic and fluid experience of the NFL.

EA should take a page out of FIFA's book here: focus on the game. Every iteration - pre-alpha onwards - sit down and play a full game, 15-minute quarters. If it feels 'right', then you're on the right path.

While Madden 10 is our favorite football game of this generation, it suffers from trying to do too much. We love the new gameplay engine (more, please!) but could’ve happily done without most of the presentation “improvements” that get more irritating with each game.

It’s no doubt the most authentic. The biggest problem is how inaccessible it is. As a Brit who understands how the sport works, and who played Madden back in 2000, the game can still be a mind-bending, frustrating exercise in trial and error.

A number of features make Madden NFL 10 a more realistic and enjoyable portrayal of football, but a few problems--both old and new--continue to trouble the series.

Like every other year, the Madden-series exceeds the limits of what a sports game can do. Stunning graphics and great, addictive game modes makes this one an instant buy for every Madden-fan, but the stinky decision of selling player upgrades for real money really hurts the overall score.

The commentary is all wrong, like they are not watching the game, rather hear nothing, the other really big deal is when the opponent is in the no huddle they catch your defense offside all the time, this is terrible when you stop them jus to get a 5 yard penilty and down over, this to me takes away from the game, not realilistic at all, 09 was better, next time ea should learn the game.
Enzo P. gave it a9:
Madden NFL 10 was a huge hit the critics liked it, it made a lot of money. But me personally I LOVED IT! It's very close to 10 but night quite the full cigar though. So far it's the best sport game of the year but with NHL 10 getting very good reviews they might not have the crown for long. Also something I have to add in this review is what a good cover. The cover is great, the cover actually has a big part in the intro and at the main menu. It's all Troy Polamalu and Larry Fitzgerald. To add on loving this game I am a big fan of the halftime report. When you do a season it shows the scores around the league and the big stats. Of course, the highlights too. This is a very smart video game I am a big fan of EA Sports. I also liked NBA Live 09 but the critics thought it was a lot worse then my perspective. I'm not that big of a fan of 2K sports the only one I liked was 2K5 football but they don't make football games anymore! To wrap this review up Madden NFL 10 is so far the best sports game of the year.
Mike M gave it a7:
I gave this a 7, although it's more like 7.5 Although this is EA Sports strongest Madden showing on the next gen consoles it still is an incomplete package. Some of the graphical and programming problems that existed in Madden 09 still exist in Madden 10. These problems really stand out in gamers minds given the fact that it looks like EA spent a fair share of time working out their micro-transaction strategies as they did nailing down all the core gameplay bugs and issues. We are in 2010 yet Madden is losing components that were free in other versions of Madden, like medical staff and player boosts in favor charging a fee for download this year. Also missing in the console version is a play creator. Although it IS in the PSP version and allows you to import them to PS3. Forcing people to yet again, purchase another version of the game in order to have a feature that used to be included in the package. The presentation, although touted as being "New and Improved" only offer us things that existed as well in past Madden titles and were later inexplicably removed. Chain gangs and Injury Carts date back to the Sega Genesis era and shouldn't be anything for the Madden Dev team to hang their hats on. As for the Halftime show......I'd rather have the option to turn it off. NFL2K5 was the only game that did this right. In fact NFL2K5 has Madden10 beat in the presentation department, contrary to what EA or other review outlets may claim. Gamers should be happy to finally have a playable and enjoyable NFL game again, but hopefully they are still far from satisfied.
Rick K gave it a1:
The only reason I give it a 1 is because of the graphics, just as another review stated: terrible game with nice coat of paint to hide it's rust. That's about all it amounts too, and again on that same review it's more then likely due to buying out any possibility of competition. 2K Sports was kicking EA Sports a$$ in the football category. It was becoming too much for EA Sports to take with the annual humiliation from the up-start 2K Sports so they just bought the NFL rights to creating football video games. That was nothing but a pu$$y move on their part... can't beat 'em so buy out the rights to make it at all??? Yeah, you really showed them... EA Sports aren't Gods of anything... they're ruthless dictators with no ba11s.
t d gave it a9:
Basically all the nay sayers are clearly 2k fanboys who are still living in 2005. Get over it already. 2k is finished. All Pro Football 2k8 was there chance to prove to the world they are the dominant developers and they FAILED MISERABLY. Now basing Madden 10 on its own merits, it is a very good game and a DEFINITE improvement over the past iterations of the game. The game will never appeal to everyone and there will always be people wanting more. Well you can't have it all but this game is far from a bad rating. Perhaps if EA switched to the PS3 as its lead console and take advantage of the 50GB disc space we will "HAVE IT ALL" but as long as we are limited by the disc space of the Xbox 360 we will just have to settle with what we got...........and that aint bad.
Mike W. gave it a9:
I'm not what you'd refer too as a wrist-jockey. More of a strategy fan in the thinking man's sense of things. I enjoy football and especially Madden NFL 10. I've been a loyalist since 1989, and I'm here to tell you this is the smoothest version release of Madden yet. It's not perfect mind you, but it's way solid on multiple fronts. The player animations are realistic to the point even non football fans will drop what their doing and marvel at the environment and grid-iron moxie. Its so good that I enjoy just watching the game run by itself, its almost like a television broadcast, yes - it is that good. Needless to say this years version of Madden Football is the best yet! If you are a true fan of the NFL - then you should not (under any circumstances) miss this jewel. You won't be disappointed.
D Will gave it an8:
I can honestly say that I am happy with this years effort to make Madden NFL 10 the best football game in the series on next gen consoles. I was a huge fan of the NFL 2k series and it hurt when i had to give up great presentation & comentary in those games for the less than stellar recent Madden games. (I would really fall asleep on many occasions when playing madden alone.) Madden has always had a solid franchise mode, and great gameplay, but it was hard for me to be excited or interested to play more than a game or two at one sitting with 5min/ quarter. Well that has changed with this years game. I know, almost, feel like i am experiencing the magic of an NFL t.v. broadcast; almost! PRESENTATION: 8 +Easy and simple to navigate menues. +Great camera tricks during games. +halftime show that breakdown stats and show highlights -uninteresting comentary. -certain parts like the halftime show, feels empty & incomplete. GAMEPLAY: 8 +same solid madden controls you are use to. +fluid and responsive.(though some may not agree, I like the slower pace of this years game because it feels more realistic) -same gamplay quirks as previous Maddens (receviers running out bounds after a catch close to the sideline, etc) AUDIO: 8 + the audio for the most part is solid. the crowds chant things they really would at their home stadium. the player chattering is nicley done and believable. +the music plays low during the games but is effective and suites this game well. great selection of audio tracks by various artist. GRAPHICS: 8.5 +Very believable and realistic animations +Simply the best looking football game available, and it looks very good in HD. -the really good animations causes the poor ones to stick out a lot more. -many player faces need help. -textures pop in late some times on sidline shots. +these negatives dont really detract from the overall experience. *there is now a franchise mode online! *If your a football fan & have a PS3 or xbox 360, then you can be sure to find a satisfiying game in Madden NFL 10.
