Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will be the most delicious event since macaroni met cheese. Inspired by the beloved children's book, the film focuses on a town where food falls from the sky like rain. Flint Lockwood is a young inventor who dreams of creates something that he hopes will improve everyone's life. At the very least, it has a drastic effect on the weather. (Sony Pictures)

LA Weekly Ernest Hardy
Cloudy is smart, insightful on a host of relationship dynamics, and filled with fast-paced action.

Very likely the most fun your family will have this month.

Any moviegoers possessed of funny bones will laugh their fool heads off at Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

Wise and respectful of its audience, "Cloudy" thus never stops the fun.
Read Full Review >Austin Chronicle Kimberley Jones
The sights are ingenious, impressively rendered in 3-D, and the sounds – including cheeky voice work by Mr. T, Neil Patrick Harris, and Benjamin Bratt – are a blast.

The film combines a pinch of morality with a healthy dose of humor to produce a movie that's entertaining for everyone.

A joyful romp, devoid of the tiresome pop-culture references.

It’s a brisk, bright, winning effort, even though it already looks sadly out of touch with the times.

Ends with a big action sequence, turning into Raiders of the Lost Arby's when you wish it would serve up something less conventional. But by that time, the filmmakers have also served up a little food for thought, along with a lot of laughs.

A surprisingly savory treat, though it doesn't bear much resemblance to the charming classic children's book on which it's based.
Read Full Review >Los Angeles Times Glenn Whipp
The movie's humor targets both kids and grown-ups with equal success, but, even with the presence of a mustache-fixated monkey, the main attraction here is the movie's vibrant 3-D animation and its perfect storm of foodie-friendly sight gags.
Read Full Review >The Hollywood Reporter Stephen Farber
The splashy animation is well-executed but again a bit monotonous for a full-length feature.
Read Full Review >Variety Peter Debruge
Eye-popping and mouth-watering in one, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs spins a 30-page children's book into a 90-minute all-you-can-laugh buffet.

Goes down easy enough at first. But even at a svelte 81 minutes, this meal drags on too long.
Read Full Review >Boston Globe Joanna Weiss
It’s not especially filling, but it leaves a pleasant aftertaste.
Read Full Review >Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert
There is clear definition between closer and further elements. I've seen a lot of 3-D recently, and in terms of technical quality, this is the best.
Read Full Review >The New York Times Daniel M. Gold
If the filmmakers opt to make only light statements about junk food, obesity and solid waste, they at least leave the audience sated on a single serving of inspired lunacy.
Read Full Review >Time Out New York Nick Schager
The year’s 3-D deluge continues: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is an amusingly loopy kids’ meal about a small-town inventor.
Read Full Review >The Globe and Mail (Toronto) Stephen Cole
Leaves us with is sporadic showers of laughs for kids under 10. That's a shame, because the film could have been a delight for everyone, if only it hadn't learned to behave.

It's the Food Network meets The Weather Channel meets . . . the Scary Doomsday Preachers Channel.

A lumpy stew of weak characterization, lame gags, ADD-afflicted storytelling, and dazzling visual.

A dead-serious piece of activist filmmaking.

dizzy c gave it a9:
A great family movie, interesting plot, and pretty funny. it even kept me entertained.
Ronald S gave it a4:
I stopped watching after the pier scene where the weather woman sticks her feet in the inventors eyes. Is it just me or did they just cut and paste her from Monsters VS Aliens? It seemed like I was watching someone who escaped from that movie in this one.. their CGI department hard up for talent to make a new character?
Abbie B gave it an8:
TOO KIDDY, should have been rated G, but it's plot is a good alternative to the original book, and some parts are actually funny, yes, especially the part when the monkey goes bananas when he sees gummy bears trying to attack them.
Jen gave it a9:
I took my 5 year old son to see it and we both loved it. We were talking about it for a few days afterward. Yes, it's kind of gross. That's the point.
Alice H gave it a1:
I have rated one just because the 3D. The film seemed awful to my husband and I. Showing such a waste of food where nobody care, too bad for these days! The scene with the headless chickens even worse and shocking for a child. We came out of the movie feeling sick of seen so many repetitive scenes. I have recommended to all of my friends DO NOT SEE IT!
Matt F gave it an8:
I took my 6 year old brother to go see this movie and i liked it, he loved it. For a kid it is a really cool funny movie, hell i laughed a few times because there are jokes for both groups young and old. There are a good amount of funny perks to it.
carmine c gave it a3:
Saw with three year old grandaughter. When she wasn't bored or scared she actively disliked. Me too.
